Ordaining Prelate : Most Rev.Diosdado A.Talamayan.D.D.
Archbishop, Archdiocese of Tuguegarao

The past eight years of his priesthood, God and His instruments made thorough preparations of Fr. Dante Sabban being a co-worker eventually being a pastor, a shepherd, (a parish priest of a christian community).. which is the parish of Saint Dominic de Guzman at Cataggaman.

Fr. Sabban had been assistant parish priest & co-worker in the
following parishes of Cagayan :
Sto. Nino, Faire.
Basilica Minore of Our Lady of Piat(2yrs.)
St. Isidore Parish at Lasam
St. Peter Thelmo Parish,Aparri(3yrs.)
St. Peter's Cathedral, Tuguegarao
These past seven and a half months, being shepherd to the community of Cataggaman, Fr. Dante have witnessed how people have worked hard just so to gather their efforts in wanting to build a house, a community rectory, not only for them but for generations to come for God's people.

Fr. Sabban have witnessed the christian community of Cataggaman, their relatives and friends gather their efforts in wanting to give their "all" despite the hard life in the Philippines, the many varied problems within families-diverting, foregoing their pastoral plans for their community just so to make amends to God and the community in concentrating their efforts of building a community office and rectory for the parish.

Fr. Dante arrived last April 15, 2005 at St. Dominic Parish, and a good number of the community members welcomed him. (It rained the 2 nights past). He saw the church edifice to be beautiful and firm. He went inside the rectory and there they have it.. rain poured almost everywhere inside as well. No qualms, no complaints.. courage is better gained reflectively in silence. The previous 6-yr. term, he succeeded two very elderly priests at Cataggaman. The late Msgr. Narciso Allag, 1999/& Msgr. Cesar Tagal (who is now attached at the Tug. Cathedral)pastor of Cataggaman; 2000-2005. Msgr. Tagal had been very sickly the past five years in his term as pastor at Cataggaman and stayed mainly in his residence at Tuguegarao during his tenure.

It had also been Fr. Ric Baccay's intention then to repair the rectory and office during his term(1993-1999) but the church and the belfry-cross tower were urgent priorities then (which the christian community too worked for hand-in-hand with their shepherd).. time ran out for his(Fr. Ric Baccay) intended repair of the rectory and office for it was starting to deteriorate but then, he was due to bow out of his term as pastor. It is with fullfilling dream now that Fr. Ric too is witnessing the ongoing renovation of the parish office and rectory of the community of Cataggaman.

History of St. Dominic de Guzman Parish Church

The old site of the church, a chapel then was believed to have been put up before the second world war.

Priests coming from the Tuguegarao Cathedral alternately took turns in catering to the spiritual and sacramental needs of the christian community of Cataggaman.

It was known that the late Fr. Remudaro opted to stay during the war at a simple hut adjacent to the Cataggaman chapel.

Fr. Remudaro was followed after by priests such as Fr. Quinto, Fr. Catral, Fr. Villena(now bishop of Bayombong), (former priest)Fr. Catabui, Fr. Herrera, Fr. Mamauag until Fr. John's term and the like catered through the generations as shepherds in their own time.

It was the late Fr. John Iringan(Pastor of St. Dominic, Cataggaman from 1987 to 1993) who initiated the simple and low-cost rectory/convent of Cataggaman parish. For the old site of the old church then nears the river bank of Cataggaman Nuevo.(now being eaten up by the river itself) The late Fr. John, was very instrumental for the negotiation of the present site of the Church of St. Dominic at Cataggaman.
